This Matcha Smoothie is only made with veggies. It has no sugar, no lactose, no gluten and no fruits. The avocado makes it creamy and cinnamon, liquorice powder and peanut butter make it sweet.
I saw the original recipe on “Vanløse Blues”, a food blog by Maria Engbjerg, who was one of the first Danish healthy food bloggers. It’s simply the best trick to use cinnamon and liquorice powder as sweetner.
Later on I made it my own version with Matcha and peanut butter.
INGREDIENTS
Smoothie:
1/2 avocado
1 big kale leave
3 courgette slices
1 broccoli chunk (frozen or fresh)
1 big spoon of peanut butter (no sugar)
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon licorice powder
1 big teaspoon matcha
1 dl cashew milk (or any plant based milk)
Topping:
Blueberries
1/2 kiwi fruit
Chia seeds
How to Make It
- Put all green veggies and the matcha, cinnamon, liquorice powder, peanut butter and cashew milk in a blender and mix until smooth.
- Adjust with more milk to get the perfect creamy texture.
- Pour in a bowl and top with blueberries, chia seeds and kiwi and some granola if you like.
- Add more milk or water and skip th topping, if you prefer drinking it.
This smoothie it’s all about the mix of ingredients. The meassures are indicating. You need to adjust the texture and taste with less or more of everything depending on how you like it. You just see how the texture comes out while blending and add a bit more of what you want, until you you like it.
Liquorice – The New Black in Modern Danish Cuisine
Black liquorice is best known as a candy. It has a unique strong flavor that people tend to either love or hate. In Denmark we always liked Liquorice candy but during the recent years it has also become a big trend to use in cooking.
Liquorice powder can be used in both salty food or desserts to give a sweet umamish twist.
“Lakrids By Bülow” – The Danish Liquorice Revolution
In 2007 the Dane Johan Bulow took liquorice to another level when he launched “Lakrids by Bulöw”.
With hand-made chocolate coated liquorice balls with surprising taste experiences he revolutionized the world of liquorice and with the liquorice syrop and powder cooking with liquorice became a trend.
Read the story of Lakrids by Bulöw here.
Lakrids By Bülow is simply an exclusive experience, not only because of the sophisticated flavours but also because the products are so stylishly presented.
Many people who don’t like liquorice are crazy about Lakrids By Bülow. So check it out here.
Below I will leave the link to the Lakrids By Bülow liquorice powder, which is the one I use. There are other types also that you might try.
How to Eat It
I like to eat the smoothie in a bowl, but you can just add more water or cashew milk or any other plant based milk if you prefer drinking it.
To make the smoothie a heavenly breakfast, try it with the Peanut Butter Ghee Granola. It’s absolutely amazing and so fast to make. The Ghee gives it such a unique sweet twist.
