Batuar is a uniquely chic and elegant restaurant inside the iconic 5-star Cotton House Hotel. It is a stylish oasis that blends a historic spirit with modern elegance and the cosmopolitan vibe of Barcelona. A mesmerizing atmosphere that makes you want to come back before you leave.

So Much More Than a Restaurant

Whether you visit or live in Barcelona, you should really explore Batuar. It’s so much more than just a restaurant, because it is located inside the emblematic hotel. It’s total experience of history, design and gastronomy in one of the most beautiful places I have seen.

Historic Style with a Modern Vibe

Cotton House is an Autograph Collection hotel located in the city center on the site of the former headquarters of the Cotton Textile Foundation “Fundación Textil Algodonera”.

The building is a 19th-century landmark of the neoclassical style, built on the orders of a family of the Catalan bourgeoisie during the golden period of the textile industry in Barcelona. The hotel opened in 2015 after being beautifully refurbished by Lazaro Rosa Violan, who has succeeded in maintaining the original architecture, applying elements of the cotton history as remarkable design features while adding a modern and timeless touch. It’s a work of art!

When you enter the hotel you step into a Neoclassical universe, that leaves the busy city center of Barcelona behind. You get the feeling that the everyday fades away as you are surrounded by the boiserie embellished ceilings, the beautiful original floor tiles and the decorative wood paneling.

A Majestic World of Elegance

On the way to Restaurant Batuar on the first floor you pass by the hall that lead to two distinctive staircases. One the famous spiral staircase built in the 50’s and the grand marble staircase that takes you to the restaurant.

On the restaurant floor you are met by a majestic hall that divides several breath-taking rooms. You should explore the elegant library before you head of to the luminous glass conservatory where the bar and the restaurant are located with access to the terrace.

The restaurant has a wealth of areas all with their unique style and atmosphere that suit different occasions.

The cotton is present everywhere but most significantly in room where all the cotton roles are displayed in glass cabinets as the wall decoration. A bit tucked away this room makes an elegant setting for a business or family dinner. With a background in textile design, I can’t help to adore this setting!

Around the bar at the center are lounge areas and various small tables all with green terrace as the background, where we had our lunch.

An Urban Oasis

The terrace is a 300 sqm lush oasis. It’s a really cool atmosphere. The surrounding building facades are blending in with the green vegetation. Like inside the space is broken down in so many niches, chill-out lounge areas with comfortable sofas, tall tables for a fast drink and tapas and all sizes of tables.

We enjoyed a glass of wine and some olives in the corner with the giant rattan chair before we settled down for lunch.

Sofisticated Cotton Style

We found a table in the shadow of a parasol. The tables are set adorably with a classic style and great sense of textures and colours.

All details are aligned with the cotton house story. The table cloths and napkins are made of a beautiful white cotton and cotton flowers in glass vases serve as decoration of the barcode menu. This beautiful setting made me happy before I started eating!

It was a hot day and we wanted something light, so we ordered one starter and a main dish to start with to share like we often do here in Spain! I love this way of eating because you can try more.

Creative Cusine At It’s Best

I hadn’t tried any of the dishes before, but I can’t imagine there were any better options on the menu! Both dishes were so creatively well combined!

The starter was the “Duck Carpaccio and Foie Gras” with Roast Juice and Pistachio Ice Cream. Oh my God!! This was an absolute heavenly fusion of flavor, texture and colours. It’s one of the most tasty and creative dishes I have had in all its simplicity.

The main was a “Smoked Octopus” with Chorizo Breadcrumbs, Creamy Chickpea and Black Garlic. As a fan of black garlic, I was in heaven! Actually, I didn’t understand where the Creamy Chickpea was, but there were some kind of caviar on top. Nevertheless, it was such a delicious experience and the garlics were perfect. If you like black garlic like me, you can check my Black Garlic Guacamole Bruchettas out here.

We had a nice glass of cold white wine and on the side some of the Catalan tomato bread. Fresh and crunchy!

Imagine, the Duck Carpaccio with Pistachio Ice Cream was so delicious that we repeated it. And look, it came in a different visual presentation. I love that every chef has an individual creative touch.

We completed the lunch with a “Chocolate Cake” with Hazelnut and Salted Candy and the “Cheesecake” with Redfruit Ice-Cream and a Cortado. I particularly loved the presentation of the desserts and the espresso cups were adorable.

Oh, forget to mention that we had an excellent Gin&Tonic with Rosemary that was so good that my friend had another while we chilled in the sofas.

We left the place physically and mentally uplifted. Batuar is truly a 5-star experience, not only because of the food but the whole setting is so mesmerizing. I didn’t feel like leaving!

Batuar will give you a sofisticated memorable moment whether you are looking for the perfect romantic dinner, family reunion, business lunch or late night cocktails.
